Nneka Live at Double Door Chicago February 14th 2010
The Nneka show last night was off the hook! For those of you who were there you definitely know this. For those of you who weren't...well you missed out.
I was fortunate enough to be able to DJ before and after the show. (Big ups to all the dancers, your energy was much appreciated). I also was fortunate enough to view the show as a fan from a birds eye view directly next to the stage. Whether you were in the front, on the side, or in the back you were privy to some good music and even better energy. Nneka's music is very revolutionary with the overlying theme of freedom and love. If I had to guess I would say she is inspired by Bob Marley, Fela Kuti, Erykah Badu, Nina Simone, and Lenny Kravitz. She presented a message tha sooo needed to be heard.
The night began with yours truly on the decks and then Jerome Holloway enchanted us with his vocals and acoustic performance perfect for Valentine's Day. It was kinda like the calm before the storm. Then the storm came. Nneka and her band took the stage and commenced to rocking. Not only was this a great event because of the music but also because of the crowd.
It was good to see how many people supported. It was also good to see and meet so many people I had never seen before in Chicago. That is always a breath of fresh air. Although partying with the regular heads and supporters of the various scenes is love its always good to encounter new experiences and feel a different vibration.
This event was an opportunity to take advantage of a great night out.
As we become older and have less time and desire to party like we did in our 20s and early 30s coupled by the fact that some of best venues in Chicago have closed leaves music heads with limited options to enjoy a quality night out. When I say quality I'm not talking about going to live performances or events done at sports bars or lounges with puny sound systems that are not designed for your full enjoyment of the music. I always love going to hear a great artist at quality venues mainly because the music translates so much better if you have a sound system specifically designed for that purpose (Big ups to the Double Door its staff and sound engineers).
Nneka and her band concluded their North American tour in Chicago at Double Door and now are headed across the pond and that my friends concludes this blog post. When she visits the states again it would be in your best interest to be in attendance.
As for Nneka's music you can purchase it music on Amazon and Itunes.
She has two albums prior to this current project is entitled Concrete Jungle.
