Baby Powder's relevance to Dance/House Music culture: At many parties where dancers and music fans gather, dancers sometimes sprinkle baby powder on the floor to loosen them up providing a smoother glide and groove when dancing. If you see or smell baby powder on the floor at a party it would be safe to assume that somewhere in the party there is some serious dancing taking place. Folklore dictates that this practice originated during the 1970s or 80s in the New York Underground Garage and House Music Scene and has since spread across dance floors globally.
